I may have missed a reference to this.

Is it possible to require logins... i.e. no guest posting?

Certainly! Find the permissions section at the bottom of the configuration in the forum.pl file. Set the posting, topic creation and editing privileges of the 'guest' group to zero. Logout any existing account you have, and the script should display "sorry, you can't post" messages where appropriate.
