does anyone (Angus if possible!!) know HOW I can prevent a few spamming twonks from leaving their consistently annoying 1 message per day spam threads about links to viagra etc etc.

I can see their IP address (e.g. 210.87.251.107), so wondered if there was a way to block them by IP. Also maybe the facility to block not just individual IPs but also whole block domains if necessary?

I am getting fed up with having to every day delete a stooopid message which contains loads of links and at the bottom an extremely poor effort at claiming innocence by stating " this is not spam" !!!!!

Any  help would be appreciated. :)

It's in the forum config section with examples in forum.pl, just find it and uncomment.

I ran a forum for some time and was plagued by spamming which came from proxy servers that rotated every day so blocking IP addresses and filtering content and HTML was not the solution.

Making the posters enter a security code with every message WAS part of the solution however the attempts to post advertising continued.

I  believe this is used as a way of promoting crap in search engines etc and is automatically generated and once your forum is targeted it goes on for ages.
Its destroyed lots of web forums as the admins give up in disgust.

If anyone wants to discuss this and tbe solutions in more detail see the response form on http://www.gibnet.com

Actually in the live version on this site I snuck a hidden form field in here called "email" and the backend rejects the message if anything (i.e. spambots) fills it out ;).
